I've been t1 for about 9 years now and I've always kind of lived my life by the motto "yeah I'm diabetic, but as long as I take the correct amount of insulin, I can eat whatever I want!" This was probably my way of coping and trying to feel "normal". But recently, I've really wanted to experiment with a lower carb diet and see if it improves my diabetes (and if I can save me some money on insulin, that'd be pretty cool too 😜). In the past, I'd say eating 150-200g carbs a day was pretty normal (cause I could literally eat a whole pot of potatoes, I know, I'm terrible). I'm thinking about cutting it down to around 75g.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Did it positively or negatively effect you? Do you have any tips?
